Coupang has experimented with international shipping under several names, and shoppers routinely assume it mirrors the Korean app. It does not. The exported catalog is a curated subset chosen for shipping tolerance and margin, and the pricing reflects export handling rather than domestic competition.
How the catalogs differ
The domestic app carries tens of millions of SKUs including third-party marketplace listings. Any international-facing version limits itself to Coupang-stocked goods that clear export rules, which cuts out fresh food, most liquids over volume limits, batteries and anything with regulatory friction. Expect single-digit percentages of the domestic catalog. Marketplace listings are also where most of the genuinely Korean small-brand product lives, so cutting them out removes much of the reason to shop Coupang in the first place.
Pricing behavior
Domestic Coupang prices move constantly because sellers compete algorithmically. Export pricing is set less dynamically and typically sits above the domestic low, since the daily price war is what makes Coupang cheap in the first place. The practical effect is that a household item at 4,900 KRW domestically can appear at an export price of $7-9 before shipping, which is still cheap but no longer remarkable.
The language trap
The domestic app has an English toggle that translates the interface but not seller-written product titles and option names. This is where most ordering errors happen, because the option dropdown that determines which color and quantity you receive stays in Korean even in English mode. The fix is to copy the Korean option string exactly rather than relying on the translated interface, since the string is what identifies the physical variant you receive.
When each makes sense
One or two shipping-tolerant items and you want zero complexity: use whatever international option is live. A basket of ten household items, or anything from the marketplace side, needs a domestic order routed to a Korean address. A useful rule is that if the entire basket fits the export catalog and totals under about $60, the international route is simpler and probably cheaper overall.
