Group orders save money and cost time. Ordering alone costs money and saves time. That trade is obvious in the abstract and much less obvious once you put real numbers on it, because the saving shrinks as your order grows.
The numbers for a single album
Alone: about 15 USD of goods plus 22 to 30 USD of shipping, so 37 to 45 landed. In a twenty-person group order: 15 USD of goods, a shipping share of 5 to 8, plus a reshipping cost of 5 to 9 and often a small organizer fee, landing at 26 to 34. The group order saves roughly 10 dollars and costs about four extra weeks.
The numbers for a five-item order
Alone: 75 USD of goods plus 40 to 50 of shipping, so 115 to 125. In a group order the shipping share is per item, so five items means five shares plus reshipping, commonly landing at 105 to 130. The saving has essentially disappeared, because your own order is now large enough to consolidate efficiently by itself.
Where the crossover sits
Roughly three items. Below that, group orders are meaningfully cheaper. Above that, ordering directly and consolidating captures the same economies without the dependency on someone else's schedule. Heavy items such as lightsticks flip the comparison earlier, because per-item shipping shares scale with weight. Below three items the group order typically saves 8 to 15 USD; above five it usually saves nothing at all and costs you a month.
Control, which is not free
Ordering alone means you choose the store, the version, the timing and when the box ships. In a group order you get what the organizer bought, when they distribute it. For pre-order gift hunting and version-specific buying, that loss of control is often the deciding factor rather than the money. Organizers also make version decisions in bulk, so if you wanted a specific store's pre-order card you may simply not get it.

Are group orders safe?
Reputable organizers with a track record are, and the community polices itself reasonably well. The risk is real but it concentrates in first-time organizers with no history.
Can I join a group order for just the pre-order gift?
Some organizers sell inclusion-only slots, where you receive the card and poster and not the album. It is the cheapest way to get a store-exclusive card if you do not want the disc.
Why do group orders take so long?
Because the organizer waits for all participants, then the store, then international transit, then splits and reships. Each step is normal; there are simply five of them.
