How to Read Korean Product Reviews and Tell Which Ones Matter

How It Works

Korean e-commerce review sections are unusually detailed, with photo reviews, height and weight disclosures and structured attribute ratings. They are also full of incentivized reviews. Separating the two is a skill that pays off on every purchase.

The structured attributes

Most Korean platforms ask reviewers to rate fit, color accuracy and quality against fixed options, then display an aggregate such as runs small, true to size or runs large. This summary is near the top of the review section and is the single most useful data point on a clothing page.

Photo reviews versus text reviews

Sellers reward photo reviews with points, which means photo reviews skew positive and are often written the day the item arrives. Text-only reviews written weeks later are less incentivized and more likely to mention durability problems. Sort by most recent rather than most helpful.

Spotting incentivized reviews

Reviews that are uniformly short, posted in clusters on the same date, and mention receiving the product for review are the pattern to watch. Korean platforms label sponsored reviews, though the label is small. A product with hundreds of five-star reviews all posted within a week deserves suspicion.

Using reviewer body stats

Korean clothing reviewers routinely state their height and weight alongside the size they bought. Finding two or three reviewers close to your measurements tells you more about fit than any size chart, and it is the reason Korean listings are easier to buy from remotely than most.

Frequently asked

Are Korean reviews trustworthy overall?

The structured fit data is reliable because it is aggregated. Individual enthusiastic reviews are the part to discount.

Can I translate reviews easily?

Browser translation handles review text reasonably well. The structured attribute summaries translate cleanly since they use fixed phrasing.

What is the single best review signal?

The aggregate fit summary on clothing, and recent text-only reviews on everything else.
