The campus address problem
University mailrooms often reject packages addressed with the wrong format, hold them for a limited number of days, and close entirely between semesters. Use the exact format your school publishes, including any box or unit number, and confirm whether they accept packages from all carriers. A package arriving during a break closure can be returned to sender internationally, which is expensive.
Timing around the academic calendar
Do not have anything dispatched from Korea in the two weeks before a semester ends. A two to three week door-to-door timeline plus a mailroom holding period means an item ordered in early May can arrive at a building nobody enters until August. Ship to a permanent home address for anything ordered in the last month of a term.
Shipping on a student budget
Per-kilogram cost falls sharply with weight, so pooling with friends is the single largest saving available. Four students consolidating into one 8 kg box typically pay 40 to 50 percent less each than four separate 2 kg boxes. Agreeing in advance on how to split the bill by weight avoids the argument that usually follows.
Dorm-friendly purchases
Space and rules constrain what is worth importing. Compact album editions, stationery, skincare and clothing work well. Anything requiring a Korean plug shape and 220 volts does not work on US power without a converter, and many dorms restrict high-wattage appliances, so Korean small appliances are usually a bad import. Anything that generates heat or draws high current is also the category most dorms explicitly prohibit, so check the housing rules before ordering rather than after it arrives.
