The gifting mechanic
You buy an item and it arrives as a message in the recipient's KakaoTalk. They then enter their own delivery address, or in the case of a coupon-type gift, redeem it at a store. The buyer never handles the address, which is why the flow breaks entirely for a foreign buyer with no Korean recipient. Prices match ordinary retail rather than carrying a gifting premium, so the platform is a genuine sales channel rather than a novelty layer on top of existing stores.
Exclusive sets worth knowing about
Cosmetics brands, cafes and confectioners produce Kakao-only gift configurations, often with special packaging, priced 15,000-60,000 KRW. Character goods tied to Kakao's own IP are a separate exclusive category available nowhere else at retail.
