What people most often want
Traditional items such as a small hanbok or ceremonial piece, regional food specialties, children's books in Korean, family-record or place-name related documents and prints, and objects tied to a specific city or province. These are frequently sold by small local shops with no online presence in English and no international shipping. Prices are usually modest, often 10,000 to 80,000 KRW, which means the shipping decision matters more than the purchase decision.
Small purchases and the shipping problem
A single 30,000 KRW item shipped alone costs more in freight than the item is worth. Because these purchases are often one-off and emotionally driven rather than planned, they are exactly the ones that get shipped individually. Holding several small purchases and sending one box is worth the wait even when each item is urgent to you.
Regional and local shops
Much of what is worth buying comes from provincial shops and markets rather than from Seoul e-commerce. These sellers often take orders only by phone, in Korean, and deliver domestically. Reaching them requires someone able to make that call, which is a service question rather than a shopping one. Provincial specialty shops frequently have no online catalog at all, so a request may need to start with a photograph or a description rather than a product link.
Documents and records
Requests for family records or civil documents are handled by Korean government offices and are a separate process from shopping, usually requiring identity verification and sometimes an in-person or authorized representative visit. Adoptee support organizations are better placed to help with this than any commercial service, and it is worth going to them first.

Can I have items shipped from a local Korean market?
Yes, when someone can place the order domestically. Market sellers deliver within Korea readily and almost never internationally, so the domestic-address step is what makes it possible.
Are Korean children's books available in English editions?
Some are, but the bilingual and Korean-language editions sold domestically are usually different products from any US release. Domestic editions are cheaper and far more varied.
What about ordering food from a specific region?
Shelf-stable regional specialties usually ship fine. Fresh and meat-containing regional products generally cannot be imported, which unfortunately covers a lot of what regions are known for.
