What only the brand site has
Full size ranges including refill and jumbo formats, discontinued shade backstock, brand-exclusive sets, and sample bundles. Retailers stock the fastest-moving SKUs and drop the rest, so if a shade or size is missing from Olive Young it is often still on the brand site. Brand sites also carry the full ingredient and usage information that retailers abbreviate, which matters if you are checking a formula before committing to a full size.
Sample and gift economics
Brand sites compete on gift-with-purchase rather than price, commonly adding five to ten deluxe samples above a 50,000 KRW threshold. Those samples are travel-friendly and effectively free weight if you are already near a shipping bracket. Retailers rarely match this. Threshold gifts rotate monthly, so checking what is currently attached before deciding where to buy can be worth more than a few percent of price difference.
Where the retailer wins
Multi-brand baskets, because one order means one domestic shipment and one set of packaging. Buying from six brand sites means six domestic deliveries to your warehouse address, each with its own handling, and six chances for a delay. Each additional domestic delivery also costs 2,500-3,500 KRW unless the brand offers free shipping, which adds up quickly across several small orders.
The membership trap repeats
Brand sites run their own point systems and tier discounts tied to Korean accounts, and the displayed price often already assumes a member discount. Verify the actual checkout total rather than the crossed-out comparison price. A reasonable approach is to buy the bulk of a haul at a retailer and use brand sites only for the specific items or sizes the retailer does not carry.
