Height-based sizing
Korean kids sizes are the child's height in centimeters: 80, 90, 100, 110, 120, 130, 140, 150. Measure your child's height and pick the nearest number rather than converting from a US age size. A US 4T typically maps to 100-110 depending on the child, which is why age conversion fails. Korean children's brands also tend to size generously in length and slim in width, so a child who is tall and narrow fits the pattern better than one who is stocky.
Baby sizing conventions
Infant sizes use months in Korea similarly to the US, marked as 3, 6, 9, 12 and 18 months, but Korean babywear generally runs slim through the body compared to US equivalents. Sizing up one step is the standard advice for chunky babies and for anything intended to last a season. Seasonal outerwear is the exception, usually sized to layer, so a winter jacket in the same number will be roomier than a summer tee in that size.
What is worth importing
Korean brands excel at outerwear, knitwear and matching sets, typically 25,000-70,000 KRW per piece. Fabric quality at that price beats US mass market. Character licensed goods tied to Korean IP are another category with no overseas equivalent. Character licensing tied to Korean animation and webtoon properties is a genuine niche, with sets at 30,000-60,000 KRW that have no overseas equivalent at all.
Safety labeling differences
Korean children's products carry a KC safety certification mark rather than any US marking. This does not create an import problem for personal quantities, but drawstrings and small detachable parts follow Korean rather than US regulation, so inspect anything for an infant yourself. Korean sizing for shoes also uses millimeters, so a child's shoe listed at 150 means 15 cm of foot length rather than any US size number.
