Reading Korean Order Status Messages

How It Works

A Korean order page shows a status that updates through a defined sequence. Because the labels are in Korean and translate inconsistently, buyers often cannot tell whether an order is progressing normally or has silently stalled.

The normal sequence

Payment complete, then product preparing, then shipping in progress, then delivery complete. The transition from payment complete to preparing usually happens within a business day. Preparing to shipping is where the variance lives, taking anywhere from one day for stocked goods to two weeks for made-to-order or pre-order items. Some sellers also add an intermediate status meaning the invoice has been issued, which appears before the courier actually scans the parcel.

Where orders stall

Sitting in preparing beyond the seller's stated preparation period is the classic warning sign, and it almost always means the seller does not have the item and is waiting on a wholesaler. Korean sellers are required to notify of delays but frequently do so only in a notice on the product page rather than by message. Korean sellers are also required to refund automatically if they cannot ship within a defined period, which is why long stalls often end in a cancellation notice.

Partial shipment statuses

Multi-item orders can split, showing one line shipped and another still preparing. Each line has its own tracking. This is normal on marketplace orders where items come from different sellers, and it means your consolidated box waits for the slowest line. Splitting also happens on single-seller orders where one item is in stock and another is being restocked, which the order page shows as separate lines.

Cancellation and refund statuses

Cancellation requested, cancellation complete and refund complete are separate steps and appear in that order. Seeing cancellation complete without refund complete simply means the money is in transit, typically three to five business days for a card reversal. A cancelled order also releases any coupon used back to the account in most cases, though promotional coupons tied to an event are frequently forfeited.

Frequently asked

What if an order sits in preparing for two weeks?

Message the seller with the order number and ask directly whether the item is in stock. Two weeks without shipment usually means it is not.

Does delivery complete mean the warehouse received it?

It means the courier marked delivery at the address. A consolidation warehouse then logs it separately, usually within a day.

Can I cancel after it moves to preparing?

Sometimes, at the seller's discretion. Once it shows shipping in progress, cancellation becomes a return instead.
