Albums are structurally fragile in ways their price does not suggest. A photobook is a hardcover with exposed corners, a photocard is 0.3 mm of laminated stock, and both travel in a box that will be stacked under heavier freight. Damage is a packing problem, not a luck problem.
Corner crushing and how to stop it
The most common damage is corner impact from the album sitting against the box wall. The fix is simple: at least 3 cm of compressible filler on every face, and albums stacked flat in the center of the box rather than standing on edge. Ask for this explicitly, since domestic Korean packing assumes a one-day truck ride. Boxes should also be sized close to the contents, because a large box with light filler lets albums shift during handling regardless of how much padding is present.
Protecting loose photocards
Pre-order cards ship loose and slide inside the box, where they bend against album edges. A penny sleeve plus a toploader, taped flat to a rigid surface, eliminates this. The added weight is under 20 g for an entire set. Loose cards should never be placed inside the shrink wrap of an album either, since the wrap tension can bow a card permanently over a two-week transit.
Poster tubes are the weak point
Rolled posters ship in cardboard tubes that crush under stacking and add substantial volumetric weight. If the poster matters, request a rigid tube with end caps and expect it to be the item driving your dimensional weight. If it does not matter, decline the rolled poster at checkout. If a poster is included folded, it is already creased and needs no special handling, which is worth confirming before paying for tube shipping you do not need.
Sealed versus repacked
Removing the outer retail box saves volume, but for albums the shrink wrap is the value. Never allow albums to be unwrapped for volume reduction. Remove only the shipping cartons and promotional filler the store included. Promotional cardboard and store flyers, on the other hand, add weight without value and are the first thing to remove during consolidation. Weigh the volume saving against the resale value before agreeing to any repacking.
