Around a member birthday, fandoms run coordinated projects: subway ads, cafe events, charity donations and produced goods. Money flows through organizers, vendors bill in KRW, and almost every step assumes a Korean bank account. Understanding the pieces makes it clear which parts an overseas fan can realistically join.
What a support project usually includes
Subway station or bus advertising, LED screen slots, a cafe event, a charitable donation in the artist's name, and sometimes a produced goods set given to attendees. Ad slots are the expensive part: a two-week subway light box in a busy Seoul station commonly runs 1,500,000 to 4,000,000 KRW depending on location.
How funding works
Organizers open a funding call with a target and a deadline, usually four to eight weeks before the birthday, and publish a spending breakdown afterward. Contributions are commonly 10,000 to 50,000 KRW. Reputable organizers post vendor receipts and photographs of the installed ad, which is the accountability standard the community expects. Funding calls that hit their target early sometimes expand the project rather than closing, so contributing early occasionally buys a larger ad rather than just a place on the list.
Contributing from overseas
The obstacle is that funding calls usually collect by Korean bank transfer. International fans generally participate through an intermediary who holds a Korean account, or through organizers who set up a separate overseas payment channel. Ask which is available before the deadline, since these calls close on schedule and do not reopen.
Getting the produced goods
Support goods are handed out at the cafe or ad location, not shipped. Contributors who cannot attend sometimes receive a set by domestic mail if the organizer offers it, which means it lands at a Korean address and needs forwarding. Plan for the goods to reach you four to eight weeks after the birthday itself.

Are donations in an artist's name legitimate?
Charity donation projects are common and organizers usually publish the receipt from the receiving organization. Absence of a published receipt is the thing to notice.
Can I run a project from overseas?
Booking Korean ad space requires dealing with domestic vendors and contracts in Korean. Most overseas fans partner with a Korean organizer rather than doing it directly.
What happens to surplus funds?
Standard practice is to publish the surplus and either donate it or roll it into the next project. Organizers who never account for surplus lose credibility quickly.
