Korean stationery is one of the categories where the domestic market genuinely outclasses what is available in the US, and its release calendar follows the Korean school year rather than the American one. Ordering on a US back-to-school schedule means arriving after the good stock is gone.
The Korean academic calendar
The Korean school year begins in March, with a second semester starting in late August. New stationery lines, planners and character collaborations are released in February and again in August. The February wave is the larger of the two and includes most of the year's new designs. That puts the Korean stationery year six months out of phase with the US one, and previous-cycle stock is clearing at exactly the moment US shoppers start looking.
What is worth importing
Gel pens and multi-pens at 2,000 to 8,000 KRW each, sticker and memo sets, character notebooks and the planner and diary category where Korean brands are particularly strong. A well-chosen 100,000 KRW stationery haul weighs only about 1.5 to 2 kg, which makes it one of the better weight-to-value categories to import.
Character collaborations sell out
Limited character and illustrator collaborations released in the February wave typically sell through within three to six weeks and are not restocked. If a specific design is the reason you are ordering, buy it in the first month rather than waiting to build a bigger cart. Secondary market prices for popular collaboration sets commonly run two to three times retail within a month of selling out, which is a lot to pay for a notebook.
Ordering to arrive for a US school year
For a late-August US school start, order Korean stock in the first half of July, which catches the previous year's lines at clearance prices before the Korean August wave arrives. For newest designs, order in March and accept that you are buying six months ahead of when you will use them. Ordering in March also means paying full price, so the tradeoff is design availability against roughly 30 percent. For most buyers the July clearance route wins.

Are Korean notebooks a standard size?
Mostly A5 and B5, which are slightly different proportions from US letter-based sizes. B5 is a common Korean notebook size with no direct US equivalent, so binders and folders may not match.
Do pens ship internationally without issue?
