Korean Lip Tints: Formulas, Finishes and How Shades Translate

K-Beauty

Lip tint is the product category where Korea led and the rest of the world followed. The domestic shelf is enormous, prices are low, and the formats have no clean US equivalent, which makes shade selection from photos genuinely difficult.

The main formula families

Water tints stain heavily and dry down completely. Velvet and mousse tints give an opaque matte finish. Glow and jelly tints add shine and wash off more easily. Blur tints, a more recent Korean format, sit between velvet and glow. Prices cluster at 8,000-18,000 KRW, or about $6-13.

Reading Korean shade names

Shade names are usually descriptive nouns rather than numbers, and the swatch photo on a Korean product page is typically shot in bright, cool studio light that lifts the color. Look at user review photos further down the page, which Korean retailers display prominently with real skin tones.

MLBB and the Korean color palette

The dominant Korean lip palette runs muted corals, brick reds, mauve pinks and brown-based nudes. Bright blue-reds and true fuchsias exist but occupy far less shelf space. If you wear vivid colors, expect a narrower selection than at a US retailer.

Buying multiples is the efficient move

Tints weigh 15-25 g each. Ten tints is under 300 g, so shade uncertainty is cheap to hedge. Buying a five-shade set from one line costs roughly 45,000-70,000 KRW and lets you find your color without a second order.

Frequently asked

Do velvet tints dry out lips?

Matte and velvet formulas are drying by design. Korean routines usually pair them with a lip balm or an overnight lip mask.

Do lip products have shipping restrictions?

Standard cosmetics in retail packaging ship normally. Only aerosol or high-alcohol items run into restrictions.

Are Korean tints long-wearing?

Water and velvet tints are the most persistent, often lasting through a meal. Glow and jelly formats need reapplication.
