The single biggest source of surprise delay on Korean orders is buying something labeled as available that was never in anyone's hands. Korean sellers label this honestly, but the labels are in Korean and the difference between them is days or weeks.
The four states
In stock means the seller holds it and ships within one to two days. Pre-order means production or release is pending with a stated ship date. Made to order means production starts after your payment, typically five to fifteen business days. Restock pending means the seller is waiting on a wholesaler with no committed date, which is the riskiest label. Some sellers also list a same-day shipping cutoff, typically 2pm Korea time, which is a reliable signal that the item is physically present.
Where the preparation period is stated
Every Korean listing shows a preparation period near the shipping information, expressed in business days. A figure above three business days almost always signals the seller does not hold stock. This number is more reliable than any availability badge. The field is stated in business days excluding weekends and Korean holidays, which means a stated five days can easily mean nine calendar days.
Pre-order dates slip routinely
Stated pre-order ship dates for goods manufactured to demand slip by one to three weeks with regularity, especially on fan merchandise and small brand production. Sellers post a delay notice on the product page rather than messaging buyers, so check the notice section if a date passes. Fan merchandise and small-brand production are the categories where slippage is most common, since both depend on minimum order quantities being reached.
Mixing states in one order
A consolidated shipment waits for its slowest component. Combining an in-stock cosmetics order with a made-to-order garment means the whole box sits for two weeks. Splitting into two shipments often costs less than it seems once storage and delay are considered. Storage is usually free for a period at a consolidation warehouse, which makes splitting less costly than it first appears if the delay is long.
