Sauces are heavy, breakable and widely available at US Korean grocery stores, which makes most of the category a poor import. A small subset is genuinely worth shipping, and it is worth knowing which part that is before you fill a box with bottles.
The powders and dry seasonings
Dashida-style seasoning powders, dried anchovy stock packets, seasoned laver flakes and chili powder are light, dense and shelf-stable. A 500 g bag of gochugaru costs 12,000-25,000 KRW depending on grade and is noticeably fresher than what sits on a US shelf, since turnover in Korea is far faster.
The gochugaru grade question
Korean chili powder is sold by coarseness and by whether it is sun-dried, and domestic-grown chili commands a large premium over imported. The listing states origin explicitly, and the price difference between domestic and imported can be threefold for what looks like the same bag.
What not to ship
Soy sauce, cooking oil, vinegar and anything in a large glass bottle. You are paying air freight on water, the bottles break, and these are the products US Korean groceries stock most reliably. This is the clearest skip in the whole food category.
Regional and small-producer items
Traditional soy sauce from a small producer, regional salted seafood seasonings and single-farm sesame oil are where importing makes sense. They are unavailable in the US and the price gap reflects genuine scarcity rather than distribution markup.

Can liquids be shipped by air at all?
Non-hazardous food liquids in sealed retail packaging generally can, but they are heavy and leak-prone. Rules for specific products vary, so check before ordering in quantity.
How should sauce bottles be packed?
Individually bagged, cushioned, and placed upright in the center of the box. Say so explicitly in your packing request.
Is Korean chili powder much better?
Freshness and origin make a real difference in color and aroma. Domestic-grown sun-dried powder is the premium tier and the reason people import it.
