Korean sellers are legally required to notify buyers of shipping delays, and they do. The problem is where: a notice box on the product page or in the shop notice section, in Korean, which no overseas buyer thinks to check after ordering.
The three places notices appear
A notice banner at the top of the product page, the shop's own notice board linked from the store header, and occasionally a message in the order detail page. Only the third generates anything resembling a notification, and many small sellers never use it. Larger platforms surface seller notices on the order page, but independent smart stores frequently do not, which is where the gap is widest.
Standard delay phrasing
Notices follow a template: an apology, the reason, and a revised shipping date. Common reasons are production delay from the factory, a supplier stock issue, a courier volume surge around holidays, and order concentration after a broadcast or a viral post. The revised date is the only part that matters and it is always given as a specific date. Notices are also posted as images on some stores, which means browser translation will not pick them up and a screenshot translation is needed.
Holiday notices are posted in advance
Before Seollal and Chuseok, sellers post cutoff dates for orders that will ship before the holiday. Orders after the cutoff sit for four to six days. These notices go up one to two weeks ahead, which is enough time to plan around if you look. Courier networks in Korea also stop entirely for the holiday itself and run at reduced capacity for several days on either side of it.
Building a checking habit
Bookmark the product page rather than only the order confirmation, and check it if the preparation period passes without a shipping update. Ninety percent of unexplained delays have an explanation posted on the page you bought from. Setting a calendar reminder for the stated preparation deadline is a simple habit that turns an unexplained silence into a specific question you can ask.

Will I be emailed about a delay?
Rarely, and any email will be in Korean. Assume you need to check the product page yourself.
Can I cancel when a delay is announced?
Yes. A seller missing a committed shipping date gives you grounds to cancel through the order page.
Do delays affect a consolidated shipment?
Yes, the box waits for the slowest item. Consider shipping the arrived portion separately if the delay is long.
